cecile emeke is a jamaican-english filmmaker, writer, and artist from london, known for her versatile and boundary-pushing work across broadcast television, independent film, and visual art. her creative practice explores themes of time, cosmology, and cultural production, particularly through the lens of the black diasporic experience in liminal spaces and intimate settings. with a strong focus on black british, caribbean, and diasporic culture, cecile seamlessly navigates various genres and mediums, from comedy to documentary, experimental cinema to narrative drama. her career began in 2014 with her debut narrative comedy short film ackee & saltfish and the online documentary series strolling, which gained global acclaim. this success led to high-profile directing and writing opportunities with hbo's ‘insecure’, idris elba's ‘in the long run’, and the tate modern commission ‘the ancestors came’, focusing on artist faith ringgold. her work has been exhibited and screened globally, from the brooklyn museum to the national gallery of jamaica. cecile is currently developing her debut narrative feature film, no telephone to heaven, a black diasporic odyssey that blends speculative fiction with contemporary magical realism.
